If you haven’t heard the latest Stumbleupon will be retiring on June 30, 2018. That’s right the content delivery network that we have all relied on as bloggers is going away. I know that I have come to depend on it because it sends a lot of traffic my way and I’m really going to miss it, but there’s a new kid in town. Maybe not so new, but I hadn’t heard of it before.
Stumbleupon has had us stumbling for the past 16 years (est. 2001). Stumbleupon was the pioneer of content delivery and was around even before Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Founder Garrett Camp said this:
Now its time to focus on the future, and create the next discovery platform that will uncover hidden gems we would never think to search for.
He recommends joining Mix for content delivery:
Mix.com combines social and semantic personalization into one streamlined experience. It also makes it easier for people to organize content into meaningful collections. This will help you find obscure but interesting content that has been recommended by people you know and trust.
You can move your account from StumbleUpon to Mix.com
Just head over to Mix and sign up using your StumbleUpon account if you wish to transfer it.
Otherwise, there are other ways to sign up if you want to start afresh.
While it’s sad that StumbleUpon is closing next month, we’re hoping that Mix.com becomes a success as a content discovery platform. Furthermore, it’s hard to get noticed on Pinterest these days. Maybe it’s time for you to be an early adopter on Mix.
Mix is a relatively new app on the market aimed at effective content discovery that may help bloggers increase their traffic. From the founders of StumbleUpon, Mix.com is a more elegant way to discover content liked from friends and experts.
How To Use Mix
Mix.com has a very simple interface and not many buttons to play with. This means it’s actually quite easy to use and was probably designed for that same purpose.
You have to first sign up to actually see what’s displayed on the site. Sign up is easy as you can just connect with Facebook. Mix is not a social media platform, but a content discovery platform for websites (including blogs).
You can change your name and add descriptions on your profile.
What you’ll notice would be “Collections”. Each collection is like a category (e.g. travel) where you save all of the related articles in it.
Think of it as a Pinterest board. You have to curate interesting and related articles for your collections.
You can also follow others or get followers to your profile. FOLLOW ME!
There is a Chrome extension that makes saving even easier and an APP for mobile users!
Mix has a target release date of July 15th for the next round of the Curator Incentive Program based on requests and feedback. These incentives are supposed to include:
Real Money Incentives
Paid Referral Program
Weekly Email Features
Social Takeovers & Features
Homepage and In-app Features
So make sure to sign up for the program to see where they take it!
